Sharks' Burns won't be disciplined for hit on Blues' Morrow

San Jose Sharks forward Brent Burns will not face a disciplinary hearing from the NHL for Tuesday's hit on Brenden Morrow of the St. Louis Blues, a league spokesman said Wednesday.

The spokesman added that the league had already looked into the play and chose not to take any action, according to a report by Pro Hockey Talk.

Burns' hit knocked Morrow out of the game at 16:07 of the first period and received a boarding minor penalty. However, Morrow returned to play more than five minutes in the second period and three minutes in the third.

Morrow's return to action likely prompted the NHL not to take action against Burns.

"It was viewed that Morrow threw a reverse hit into Burns, and Burns won the physical battle," according to John Shannon of Sportsnet.

According to NHL.com, Morrow was given Wednesday off from practice. The Blues play Thursday at Chicago against the defending Stanley Cup champion Blackhawks.
