September Shortstop Rankings

Now that the offseason has officially begun, Matthew Pouliot takes a look at the top 150 free agents

Welcome to the September shortstop rankings. Players are ranked based on how I believe they will perform in 5x5 leagues over the remainder of the season. Along with the position rankings, you'll find a fully updated top 300 list.

Shortstop Rankings

Dropping off: Miguel Tejada (No. 30), Maicer Izturis (No. 31), Jhonny Peralta (No. 43), Everth Cabrera (No. 44), Jayson Nix (No. 46), Elliot Johnson (No. 60)

  • It wouldn't be a surprise to see the Cardinals give Ryan Jackson an opportunity over Daniel Descalso and Pete Kozma at shortstop; he's probably the best of the group defensively and it's not like he can be much of a downgrade on offense. That said, there's little to get excited about, either; he finished up at .278/.352/.346 with three homers and nine steals in 442 at-bats for Triple-A Memphis. Jackson doesn't yet have shortstop eligibility, so he's the No. 38 second baseman at the moment.
