Sabathia peppers Yankees with lifestyle questions

LAS VEGAS – During CC Sabathia's 3½ hours conversing with New York Yankees officials over the last two days, the pitcher peppered them with as many questions related to the New York lifestyle as he did about the team itself, according to a source briefed on the meetings.

Sabathia inquired about the schools in the area and transportation to and from Yankee Stadium, among other things, all due diligence as he weighs New York's six-year, $140 million offer.

Though Sabathia would prefer to live on the West Coast, neither Los Angeles team nor the San Francisco Giants has indicated he is its top priority. He has an offer to return to the Milwaukee Brewers but is waiting to see if they will offer a sixth year and come reasonably close to the Yankees' offer.

Meanwhile, Sabathia is investigating whether the rigors of New York are something he's inclined to stomach, something his family can adapt to, something they all can live with for a very long time.

"CC can handle anything," said Eric Wedge, his manager in Cleveland. "It's a matter of if he wants to handle it."

Sabathia and his wife, Amber, have three children, ages five, three and newborn.
