Rogers' podcast: Jay DeMerit's remarkable rise

Martin Rogers' Yahoo! Sports soccer podcast, in conjunction with World Football Daily, welcomes United States international Jay DeMerit this week. The veteran defender is launching "Rise and Shine," a feature film about his remarkable career.

DeMerit's story is a testament to his adventurous spirit and self-belief, and begins when he traveled to Europe after college with a few bucks in his pocket in search of a pro contract.

After playing for a pub team, he was spotted by English Championship side Watford, offered a trial and the rest is history. Little more than a year later he scored for Watford in the playoff final to earn the team promotion to the English Premier League. He also began a U.S. national team career that would take him to the World Cup in South Africa, where he bravely completed the famous victory over Algeria with blood gushing from a wound in his mouth.

This week's podcast focuses heavily on Champions League action from Europe, with Stuart James from The Guardian newspaper casting his eye on the winning performances by Manchester City and Manchester United. James analyzes whether Wayne Rooney's unfamiliar role behind the front two strikers is a move that will continue, or is simply a short-term measure.

The burning issue in English soccer is also addressed, with Rob Beasley, chief football writer for The Sun, telling why he believes John Terry's England career could be over if he is found guilty of having racially abused Anton Ferdinand in a recent EPL game.

Finally, Sophie Nicolaou and Rogers take a lighthearted look at the topics of the week and break down the top games this weekend.
