Rob Segedin gets first homer and first child in the same week

It’s been an unforgettable week for Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Rob Segedin. Not just in baseball, but in real life.

It all started on Monday when the Dodgers were facing the Cincinnati Reds. Segedin had made his MLB debut on August 7, but had yet to hit his first major league home run. That changed in the fifth inning of Monday’s game when he hammered a homer to left field at Great American Ballpark.

It was a cool moment for Segedin, who at 27 is a bit of a late bloomer. But as great as the homer was, that’s not what was on his mind as the team flew back to Los Angeles from Cincinnati.

Segedin’s wife, very pregnant with their first child, had gone into labor. Of course that’s not something he wanted to miss, and he didn’t, posting this photo to Instagram with his wife and his first home run ball.

Baby Segedin decided to take his time making his first appearance, so the expectant poppa was able to join the Dodgers as they played their rivals, the San Francisco Giants, on Tuesday night. If Segedin was nervous about becoming a father, he didn’t show it. He hammered his second ever major league homer, a solo shot off of Giants ace Madison Bumgarner, in the second inning.

Segedin stayed in the game until the eighth inning when manager Dave Roberts put on a double switch. From there he went directly to the hospital, because Baby Segedin was officially on the way. Thankfully, he made it in time.

That newborn is an adorable little peanut. Congratulations to Rob, his wife, and their newly expanded family. This week is one he’ll tell his son about for years to come.
