Rick Story Gets New UFC on FX 4 Opponent

Rick Story Steps in for Injured Gunnar Nelson at UFC 160 on Memorial Weekend

UFC fighters dropped like flies on Tuesday.

Moments after UFC officials announced that Yoshihiro Akiyama had to drop off the UFC 149 fight card in Calgary, they revealed that Rich Attonito is also off the UFC on FX 4 fight card. An undisclosed injury forced Attonito to the sidelines.

Just as quickly, however, Papy Abedi agreed to step in for Attonito to face Rick Story on the June 22 fight card in Atlantic City, N.J.

Story (13-5) enters the fight following back-to-back losses to Charlie Brenneman and Martin Kampmann. He had been rocketing towards a title shot, having won six consecutive bouts in the Octagon prior to those losses.

Abedi (8-2) is also looking to rebound after losing his last two fights. He followed a loss to Thiago Alves at UFC 138 with a loss to James Head at last month’s UFC on Fuel TV 2 on his home turf in Sweden.

Another loss for either fighter could be fatal to his UFC tenure.

A lightweight contender’s battle between Gray Maynard and Clay Guida headlines the UFC on FX 4 fight card at the Revel.
