Report: PSU's O'Brien to interview with Texans
Bill O'Brien agreed to be interviewed by the Houston Texans in their search for a new head coach, NFL.com reported.
According to the website, it was unclear if the Penn State coach already met with Texans officials or if the talks would take place soon.
The Texans fired coach Gary Kubiak on Dec. 6 after the team got off to a 2-11 start. Houston is 0-2 under interim coach Wade Phillips heading into Sunday's season finale against the Titans in Tennessee.
Former Chicago Bears coach Lovie Smith interviewed with the Texans last week. According to the Houston Chronicle, other candidates for the job include Phillips, former head coach of the Denver Broncos, Buffalo Bills and Dallas Cowboys; and San Diego Chargers offensive coordinator Ken Whisenhunt, former head coach of the Arizona Cardinals.
O'Brien is 15-9 in two seasons as Penn State's coach, despite working with fewer scholarships as part of the sanctions stemming from the Jerry Sandusky sex-abuse scandal.
O'Brien was the New England Patriots' offensive coordinator in 2011 and was an assistant with the team from 2007-10.
A clause in O'Brien's contract requires the coach to pay a buyout to Penn State if the coach leaves for an NFL job, but he had the amount lowered from $19.33 million last year to $6.48 million this year.
