Report: Nicks' UNC records given asterisk

Hakeem Nicks was ineligible in 2008, when he set multiple career and single-season records before leaving for the NFL as a first-round pick of the New York Giants.

Nicks' eligibility wasn't previously acknowledged by North Carolina, the Raleigh News and Observer reported Friday.

The report cited NCAA documents charging "academic fraud" in 2008, when Nicks received improper academic assistance from a tutor during the spring semester.

Nicks was one of the players investigated during the NCAA academic assistance inquiry in 2010 and North Carolina then acknowledged he received impressible assistance of up to $3,300 for travel, lodging and entertainment.
