Report: Kidd arrested for DWI after accident

Point guard Jason Kidd, who signed with the New York Knicks last week, reportedly was arrested early Sunday for suspicion of driving while intoxicated in the Southampton, N.Y.

The arrest, first reported by Patch.com of South Hampton, was confirmed by the Southampton Town police in conjunction with a single-car accident involving Kidd.

The authorities said Kidd, 39, was taken to the Southampton Town Justice Court and arraigned on a misdemeanor DWI charge. He released on his own recognizance.

According to police, a 2010 Cadillac Escalade driven by Kidd hit a telephone pole and then drove into a forested area in Water Mill, N.Y., close to Kidd's home in the Hamptons.

Kidd, who police said was the only person in the vehicle, was transported to the Southampton Hospital to receive treatment for minor injuries before he was arraigned.

"We await further discovery from the district attorney's office," Sag Harbor attorney Eddie Burke Jr. said in a statement..

Kidd, 39, signed a three-year, $9.5 million contract on Thursday to play for the Knicks. He has been named to the All-Star team 10 times in his career.
