Report: Giambi mulls offer to become Rockies' batting coach

Jason Giambi is considering an offer from the Colorado Rockies to be their hitting coach.

The Rockies first baseman is trying to decide whether he wants to stop playing and move into coaching, the Denver Post reported.

Giambi, 41, was a finalist for the manager's job that went to former Rockies player Walt Weiss. The Post report indicated that Giambi impressed management during his interview for the managerial job.

"I am going to take a few days, then talk to the Rockies again because my sole focus was on managing," Giambi told the Post. "I don't know what I am going to do yet. I just need a couple of days to digest everything."

Giambi came to the Rockies in 2009 but has seen limited duty, mostly as a backup. Colorado apparently isn't interested in Giambi returning as a player, but ESPN reported that several other teams have inquired about signing him.

After the season, Giambi underwent surgery on his left groin in case he wants to play next season and has an opportunity to do so.

"We will just kind of see where it goes from here," Giambi said.
