Reds don't see anything special about matchup with Giants

When the Cincinnati Reds found out the team they were playing in the National League Division Series, the player reaction was mostly ho-hum.

The Reds will play the San Francisco Giants. The five-game series opens Saturday night at AT&T Park. Right-hander Johnny Cueto will start against Matt Cain.

"I'm kind of indifferent," left fielder Ryan Ludwick said. "We were the first team to get in. We've been waiting for that scenario for some time. Now, we got it. We've got to go to San Francisco and try to take care of business. Obviously, they've got a good pitching staff.

"We're opening on the road. We'd like to get one out of the two or both. That would be great, coming home. We've played great at home. Our fans will be into it."

Joey Votto didn't think the opponent mattered much, either.

"I don't think any differently than I would with any other opponent, which is probably the right approach," Votto said. "I think we'll get out there, get a day of work in and prepare like we always do. We'll focus on the things that got us here -- playing good defense, relying on our starting pitching and our bullpen and competing."

Being in the postseason was the thing the players were excited about.

"I've never been in the postseason," Todd Frazier said. "So it's great. Whenever you're on the road, it's going to be tough. But we've got the bullets to go out there and do what we have to do. We've been doing it all season. It should be fun. I can't wait to feel that atmosphere. I'm excited just thinking about it.

"It's about winning. It doesn't matter how you win now."

The Reds won the season series with the Giants 4-3.

"I think you throw that out the door," Ludwick said. "The playoffs are totally different."
