Ravens sign QB Painter to one-year deal

The Ravens filled out their quarterback depth chart, signing Curtis Painter to a one-year deal Thursday.

Painter reunites with Jim Caldwell, hired as Ravens' quarterbacks coach after three seasons as head coach in Indianapolis where Painter was a sixth-round pick in 2009 out of Purdue.

Painter was winless as a starter with the Colts, replacing Kerry Collins but going 0-8 completing 132 of 243 (54.3 percent) for 1,541 yards, six touchdowns and nine interceptions. before being unseated in Week 13 by Dan Orlovsky.

The Ravens are very optimistic about the future of second-year quarterback Tyrod Taylor. Taylor was endorsed as a capable No. 2 quarterback by coach John Harbaugh, but Painter will have a chance to compete for that role.

The Ravens considered other veterans, including former Baltimore first-rounder Kyle Boller, before settling on Painter.
