Raiders not breaking during bye week

Rather than go their separate ways as the coaches excused players for the bye week, many Raiders players were planning on sticking around the facility to get in some extra work to help turn things around once they return to action.

No one feels good about a 1-3 start, least of all quarterback Carson Palmer, who believes he'll have plenty of company at the facility to lift weights, correct mistakes and work out without the coaching staff.

"You can say, 'I'm going to Vegas and party for four days,' but that's not what this team is about," Palmer said. "Most of the guys are sticking around and are going to come in and work out."

Coach Dennis Allen thought the Raiders were focused on trying to fix their mistakes and evaluating their own play during the bye week.

"Our guys were focused in and attentive in trying to get better. That's what you try to do on the bye week," Allen said. "After the meetings, I told them to take some time off and relax and reflect and be ready to come back with a smile on their face to go to work on Monday and get ready for Atlanta."

In the case of the Raiders, Palmer thought the early-season break was probably a good thing.

"A lot of times byes come so far into the season that you need a break," Palmer said. "We don't need a break. We're frustrated that we are where we are. We looked at this week as a chance to get better, there are practices to get better, meetings to get better."
