Raiders continue to struggle with halftime adjustments

Last season, the Oakland Raiders might have won a few extra games if the coaching staff was better at making halftime adjustments. Frequently, they would come out strong in the first half, only to fizzle in the second half and eventually give away a game that they should have won.

This ALMOST happened again in week three of this season as Oakland nearly blew a two touchdown lead in the second half.

The Silver and Black took a 17-3 lead into the locker room at half time on Sunday. It was a very strong half for the Raiders who looked in control most of the first two quarters. Even as the half came to an end, they continued to play strong, scoring a touchdown and securing an interception in the final four minutes of the half.

But with the end of the first half, came the end of the domination by the Silver and Black. They started the second half with the ball but failed to increase their lead. Instead, they ended up punting and then promptly gave up a touchdown. On both sides of the ball, the Raiders came out flat after halftime while the Titans bounced back with good adjustments.

The Raiders were on pace to score over 30 points for the third straight week but halftime adjustments by the Titans held them scoreless for the rest of the game. The defense did end up solidifying themselves but they also got some help from pretty poor play calling and performance by the Titans.

The Raiders played well enough in the second half to get a win, but the lack of halftime adjustments is a trend that started last year and has carried over into this season. The players need to do better on the field, but they sure could use some help from the coaches with good halftime adjustments off of the field.
