Predators' Poile named GM of U.S. team

Nashville Predators general manager David Poile was named general manager of the 2014 U.S. Olympic Men's Ice Hockey Team, USA Hockey announced Friday.

"It is the honor of a lifetime to serve my country in this capacity," Poile said in a statement. "To not only represent the United States and the sport, but to do it on the highest level of sporting competition, in an event that brings the world together, is a dream come true."

Poile was the associate general manager for the silver medal-winning 2010 U.S. men's team in Vancouver. He was a member of the U.S. National Team Advisory Group for the 2012 and '13 World Championships team. In 2012, the team won bronze, its first medal since '04.

He also served as general manager in the 1998 and '99 Worlds and associate GM in 2009 and '10.

Poile is the only general manager in NHL history to lead two different teams for 1,000 games and to 500 wins, and first to be a finalist for the General Manager of the Year Award for each of its first three years of the award's existence (2010, '11 and '12).

He also serves on the league's Competition Committee.

Since the 2005-06 season, under Poile, the Predators' 336 wins ranks sixth-best in the NHL.
