Phillies 9, Diamondbacks 5
PHILADELPHIA -- Roy Halladay pitched six innings of two-run ball to earn the win in his first start in more than three months as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Arizona Diamondbacks 9-5 on Sunday afternoon.
Halladay (3-4) yielded a run in the first and second innings before settling down to throw four scoreless frames. For a stretch between the second and fifth innings, he retired 11 of 12 batters, including seven straight. He struck out two and walked two.
In the third, Roger Bernadina aided Halladay and saved two runs with perfectly timed jump at the wall in dead center field robbing Matt Davidson of his first career home run.
Originally slated to make a rehab start with Double-A Reading, Halladay got the nod when Tyler Cloyd, Sunday's original starter, was forced into action in Saturday's 18-inning marathon. Cloyd pitched five shutout innings in a no-decision.
Halladay allowed a triple to the game's first hitter, Tony Campana. Campana scored on Adam Eaton's RBI groundout.
The Phillies tagged Arizona starter Patrick Corbin (13-4) for four runs in the bottom of the first. Darin Ruf knocked in a run with a bases-loaded single, and Cody Asche plated two more with a hard-hit double down the right-field line.
Tuffy Gosewisch tallied his first career RBI in the second on a sacrifice fly that scored A.J. Pollock, who led off the inning with a single and stole second base.
John Mayberry Jr. gave the Phillies a 6-2 lead in the fourth when he belted a 2-0 pitch into the left-field bleachers for a two-run homer, his 10th of the season.
The Phillies added three more in the sixth on an RBI single from pinch-hitter Chase Utley and a two-run double from Bernadina.
Corbin failed to go at least six innings for just the second time in 26 starts. In his worst outing of the year, he surrendered nine runs (eight earned) on seven hits and three walks over 5 1/3 innings while striking out four.
Pollock had three of Arizona's eight hits, including a three-run homer in the eighth. The other two hits (singles) did not leave the infield. Campana and Didi Gregorius each had two hits.

In a corresponding move, right-handers Cloyd and Luis Garcia were both optioned to Triple-A Lehigh Valley and RHPs Jonathan Pettibone and Michael Stutes were both transferred from the 15-day to the 60-day disabled list. ...
