The Denver Broncos spent a lot of money in the offseason to fix their offensive line woes – John Elway invested far more money in that unit than the quarterbacks. But once again, it’s like putting together an o-line made up of duct tape.

Only four teams in the NFL have surrendered more sacks than the Broncos (26,) and it’s strongly affected Trevor Siemian into being a very inconsistent quarterback. The ground game is lackluster at best, ranking 18th in the NFL with 97.4 rushing yards a game.

Donald Stephenson and Russell Okung have been massive disappointments so far. In fact, Pro Football Focus even ranked Stephenson as the third-worst player from Week 10. Ty Sambrailo was ranked ninth-worst.

But the Broncos offensive line as a whole this season has been ranked poorly, according to PFF. The Broncos only have the 25th-ranked offensive line, according to the experts:

“The Denver Broncos line is actually okay, outside of one prohibitive position that threatens to sink the whole ship. At right tackle, Donald Stephenson and Ty Sambrailo alternate getting eviscerated by opposing pass-rushers, sometimes both within the same game.”

PFF says the two have combined to allow six sacks and 46 quarterback pressures, while Russell Okung has allowed 38.

Oddly enough, some of the recent Super Bowl champions have had terrible offensive lines. Everyone knows why Russell Wilson has to run so much, and the Seattle Seahawks won Super Bowl 48. The New England Patriots protection of Tom Brady was lackluster when they won it two season ago.

And yeah, the Broncos o-line last year wasn’t much better than this year. And they won Super Bowl 50.

But that doesn’t mean John Elway can turn a blind eye to it. The Broncos have nine days to get this offensive line fixed up.
