Penguins make another deal, acquire Jokinen

The SportsXchange

The Pittsburgh Penguins remained active before the NHL trade deadline on Wednesday, picking up forward Jussi Jokinen from Carolina in exchange for a conditional draft.

The Penguins will give up a seventh-round pick unless Jokinen appears in at least half of the Penguins' playoff games and the team wins the Stanley Cup. If that happens, the pick will be in the sixth round.

The Hurricanes also will retain a portion of Jokinen's salary. He is signed through next season and carries a $3 million cap hit.

Jokinen went unclaimed after the Hurricanes placed him on waivers last week.

In 33 games this season, Jokinen has six goals and five assists, but his production has fallen from a career-high 30 goals and 35 assists three years ago.

The 30-year-old Jokinen is expected to play on the Penguins' fourth line.

In the past week, the Penguins have acquired forward Brenden Morrow from Dallas, defenseman Doug Murray from San Jose and Jarome Iginla from Calgary.
