The tides have turned against President-elect Donald Trump when it comes to New England. Trump’s presence has not been well received by New England fans. Massachusetts is one of the most liberal states on the east coast and there has been some buzz about the connections that the Patriots have to Trump. This is not a relationship that most of Patriots’ Nation are content with being associated.

It all started when star quarterback Tom Brady was spotted by Patriots’ reporters in the locker room of Foxboro Stadium wearing a “Make America Great Again” hat in support of his friend Trump. The team’s tie to Trump have grown much stronger than expected for a team based out of liberal Mass.

It is shocking to much of Patriots’ Nation because Massachusetts was the only state in which every county voted for Hillary Clinton. She won 60.8 percent of the state while Trump took 33.5 percent. While almost all of New England supported Clinton, the shocker is that the Patriots are the only team in the NFL with such strong affiliations to the Republican President-elect. Head coach Bill Belichick, Patriots’ owner Robert Kraft and Brady have a long-running public relationship with Trump, who is one of the most conflict-ridden and dread stirring figures in the history of American politics.

Over the past decade, Patriots’ Nation has stood by their team as the Patriots were faced with Spygate and Deflategate but to be faced with a red team that is in a blue state has now brought the Patriots onto the political level. One has to wonder if Patriots’ Nation is willing to stay loyal to a team that cheers for a President-elect that stands against what most of them believe in.

A Patriots’ fan’s mentality is Pats-fans-against-the-world while defending Brady, Kraft and Belichick. However, what will happen when Trump is thrown into the mix disrupting the trinity that is the New England Patriots? These connections could send the wrong impression to Patriots’ Nation.

Trump knows that New England has one of the strongest fan bases in the NFL. One can only question the thought behind the greatest dynasty in the league. To follow Trump is not the Patriots’ way and fans may have to come to terms with a decision to be associated with the Republican President-elect that called Mexican’s rapists in his speech for candidacy or the love of their team.
