One week after four-touchdown game, Jameis Winston has four turnovers vs. Cardinals

Every quarterback has good and bad days, and young quarterbacks especially will have their share of clunkers as part of the growing process.

Count Sunday as a clunker for Jameis Winston.

One week after completing over 70 percent of his passes and throwing four touchdowns (and one interception) in leading the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to a season-opening win in Atlanta, Winston had a rough outing against the Arizona Cardinals.

Playing on the road, Winston threw four interceptions, lost a fumble and completed just over half of his career-high 52 pass attempts as Tampa Bay was dominated by the Cardinals, 40-7.

It was a good bounce-back for Arizona, one of the preseason favorites to win the NFC, after last week’s loss to the the New England Patriots and Jimmy Garoppolo on Sunday night football. Though neither team scored in the first quarter, Arizona put 24 points on the board in the second quarter to take control of the game.

Tampa Bay scored its only touchdown of the game to open the second half to cut its deficit, but the Cardinals went back to turning it on, with Marcus Cooper getting a 60-yard interception return touchdown with five minutes left in the third.

The interception problems began early for Winston, the No. 1 overall pick in 2015, as he was picked off on Tampa Bay’s first possession of the afternoon. He was also picked off on the team’s first possession of the second quarter, and lost the ball later in the quarter as he brought it back and it appeared to hit the shoulder pad of running back Charles Sims.

Despite Tampa Bay being in such a large hole, Winston remained in the game until the end, throwing an end-zone interception on the final play of the game.
