Ole Miss suspends Marshall Henderson indefinitely
Mississippi senior guard Marshall Henderson was suspended indefinitely Wednesday, the school announced.
The school cited the suspension as being for a violation of team rules, according to media reports.
"Since the season ended, we have talked a lot about Marshall taking a greater leadership role with our team," Ole Miss head coach Andy Kennedy said in a statement. "With that comes greater responsibility, and he must do a better job of living up to the high standard we expect from him and he desires from himself."
Citing unnamed sources, CBSSports.com's Gary Parrish reported that the suspension was due to a failed drug test. Those same sources told Parrish that Henderson's future at Ole Miss could be in jeopardy.
Henderson failed drug tests in January 2012 and wound up serving jail time as a result, according to USAToday.com. He also was arrested on forgery charges while a high school senior.
After prior stops at South Plains Junior College, Texas Tech and Utah, Henderson transferred to Ole Miss prior to last season and then went on to lead the SEC in scoring (20.1 points per game) and was also named conference tournament MVP in March. But he also raised controversy when he raised his middle finger to an opposing fan during the tournament, an action he later publicly apologized for.
