NFL roundup: Packers QB Rodgers out for Sunday game
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers is out for Sunday's game against the Dallas Cowboys.
Rodgers believed he was ready to play, but he was not medically cleared Friday after participating in practice on a limited basis this week. He took snaps with the first-team offense in practice, elevating optimism that the All-Pro passer could play at Dallas.
"Aaron feels like he's ready to go," coach Mike McCarthy said Friday.
McCarthy said he agreed with the medical staff that Rodgers should sit.
Matt Flynn will start for the third game in a row.
Rodgers hasn't played since Nov. 4, when he suffered a broken collarbone.
---The Jacksonville Jaguars released defensive end Jeremy Mincey. ESPN reported that the team let Mincey go after he was late to a team meeting. He also missed a meeting in November.
---The Jaguars listed running back Maurice Jones-Drew as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Buffalo Bills due to a strained hamstring.
---The Minnesota Vikings listed running backs Adrian Peterson and Toby Gerhardt as questionable for Sunday's game against the Philadelphia Eagles.
Peterson sprained his right foot last Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens. Gerhart is recovering from a strained hamstring against the Ravens.
---Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Percy Harvin was ruled out for Sunday's game against the New York Giants as he continues to recover from a hip problem. Coach Pete Carroll suggested it might be awhile before Harvin returns, according to the Seattle Times.
Cornerback Brandon Browner (groin) and linebacker K.J. Wright (foot) were also all ruled out.
---Cleveland Browns running back Willis McGahee is out for Sunday's game against the Chicago Bears because of a knee injury, according to the Akron-Beacon Journal.
The Browns also reportedly ruled out left guard John Greco (knee) and tight end Andre Smith (calf).
However, quarterback Brandon Weeden was cleared after recovering from a concussion and will back up Jason Campbell.
---The Cincinnati Bengals ruled out cornerback Terence Newman from playing Sunday night's game at the Pittsburgh Steelers due to a knee injury.
---The New York Jets announced that second-year wide receiver Stephen Hill was placed on injured reserve with a knee injury.
---Dallas Cowboys middle linebacker Sean Lee missed Friday's practice and was ruled out for Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers. Lee injured his neck in the first quarter Monday is a loss at Chicago. He left the game for good in the third quarter.
---Atlanta Falcons coach Mike Smith told ESPN radio affiliate 790 the Zone on that starting free safety Thomas DeCoud will miss Sunday's game against the Washington Redskins with a concussion.
DeCoud was injured while trying to tackle Green Bay Packers running back Eddie Lacy during last Sunday's game.
---Medical officials had recommended to New York Giants defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul that he not play again this season because of a shoulder injury, ESPN reported.
A source said Pierre-Paul is "likely" to follow the doctors' advice, according to the report, although nothing official has been announced.
---The Dallas Cowboys signed cornerback Orlando Scandrick to a two-year contract extension which adds $9 million in guaranteed money to the $25 million extension he received in 2011, multiple media outlets reported.
Scandrick, 28, is now signed through 2018.
---Arizona Cardinals quarterback Carson Palmer is considered questionable for Sunday's game at the Tennessee Titans with a right elbow injury. However, coach Bruce Arians said that he expects Palmer to play.
---A stabbing that took place at Denver's Sports Authority Field after Thursday night's game between the Broncos and San Diego Chargers stemmed from a traffic dispute, according to police.
Denver police announced on a YouTube video that the stabbing occurred when a vehicle backing out of a parking space nearly hit another vehicle. It was not a dispute between Broncos and Chargers fans. At least three people were stabbed, but none has a life-threatening injury.
---The NFL denied reports that it reached a new deal with DirecTV to keep the Sunday Ticket package exclusively on satellite television.
