NFL preseason roundup: Sanchez so-so in Jets' win

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. -- Mark Sanchez passed for 169 yards and one touchdown but was intercepted at the goal line in the New York Jets' 37-13 preseason victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday night

Sanchez, who is competing with rookie Geno Smith for the Jets' starting quarterback job, completed 13 of 23 passes, including a 23-yard touchdown strike to Jeff Cumberland in the second quarter. Smith sat out the game with a sprained ankle.

Blake Gabbert might have taken a step forward in the Jaguars' quarterback competition, connecting on 13 of 16 passes for 165 yards and a touchdown before leaving the game with a sprained thumb. Chad Henne, also vying for the job, was 4 of 10 for 30 yards and an interception.

Jaguars running back Maurice Jones-Drew saw his first action since he suffered a foot injury last October and carried three times for 9 yards and caught one pass for 20 yards.

Bengals 27, Titans 19

CINCINNATI -- Andy Dalton completed 9 of 14 passes for 115 yards and a touchdown as the Cincinnati offense gained 220 yards in the first half of the Bengals' 27-19 preseason victory over the Tennessee Titans on Saturday night.

Bengals rookie Giovani Bernard gained 37 yards on seven carries and Daniel Herron rushed for 81 yards on nine carries, including a 40-yard touchdown dash in the fourth quarter. Standout wide receiver A.J. Green sat out the game.

Titans quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick connected on 9 of 13 passes for 136 yards and two second-half touchdowns. Jake Locker was 12 of 20 for 116 yards.

The Tennessee offense managed just one field goal in the first half.

Cardinals 12, Cowboys 7

GLENDALE, Ariz. -- Arizona won a preseason game on Saturday without scoring a touchdown in coach Bruce Arians' first home game as Jay Feely kicked four field goals and the Cardinals defeated the Dallas Cowboys 12-7.

The Cowboys hurt themselves with six first-half turnovers. Dallas quarterback Tony Romo completed 7 of 10 passes for 142 yards. Backup quarterback Kyle Orton threw two interceptions.

Dallas' only points came on a 5-yard pass from Alex Tanney to Gavin Escobar with 10:55 left in the game.

Arizona quarterback Carson Palmer was 7 of 15 for 66 yards.

Packers 19, Rams 7

ST. LOUIS -- The Green Bay Packers scored their first points of the preseason and quarterback Aaron Rodgers was an efficient 10 of 12 for 134 yards in a 19-7 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Saturday night.

But Rodgers was unable to find the end zone on any of his series, with the Packers settling for two field goals before his night was done in the second quarter. Green Bay was coming off a 17-0 loss to Arizona in its preseason opener.

Jermichael Finley caught four passes for 76 yards in the first half for the Packers and rookie running back Eddie Lacy rushed for 40 yards on eight carries.

Rams quarterback Sam Bradford completed 8 of 12 passes for 156 yards but missed a scoring opportunity when he fumbled on fourth-and-goal late in the first quarter.

Texans 24, Dolphins 17

HOUSTON -- Matt Schaub fired a first-quarter touchdown pass to Owen Daniels and finished 8-of-11 for 92 yards in the Houston Texans' 24-17 preseason victory over the Miami Dolphins on Saturday night.

Schaub threw an interception on the Texans' first possession and was sacked on their second series before coming to life. Dolphins quarterback Ryan Tannehill stayed in the game a little longer than Schaub and went 10 of 15 for 141 yards and a touchdown in the first half.

Dolphins tight end Dustin Keller was carted off the field with an apparent serious leg injury in the second quarter. Keller, in his first year in Miami after five seasons with the New York Jets, grabbed his right knee after a tackle by D.J. Swearinger on an incomplete pass.

Texans wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins, the team's first-round draft pick, suffered a head injury in the second quarter and left the game after making two catches for 22 yards.

Houston linebacker Brian Cushing had one tackle in his first action since he suffered a knee injury in Week 5 last season.

Seahawks 40, Broncos 10

SEATTLE -- Jermaine Kearse scored two touchdowns -- one on a 107-yard kickoff return -- and Russell Wilson threw two TD passes in the Seattle Seahawks' 40-10 preseason win over the Denver Broncos on Saturday night.

Wilson was 8 of 12 for 127 yards and Denver quarterback Payton Manning completed 11 of 16 for 163 yards and an 11-yard touchdown.pass to Wes Welker.

Two Broncos players were injured in the loss.

Starting defensive end Derek Wolfe was taken to a hospital after he was carted off the field with what later was described as a cervical sprine injury that did not result in a loss of movement in his extremities. Broncos guard Louis Vasquez left the game with a left knee injury,
