NFL-National Football League roundup

Dec 27 (The Sports Xchange) - Chip Kelly, who will miss the postseason for the second time in three years, said he expects to be back as head coach of the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles were eliminated from playoff contention for the second season in a row with a 38-24 loss to the Washington Redskins on Saturday night. The Eagles (6-9) are assured of a losing record -- Kelly's first as a head coach. Kelly said "no" when asked after the loss whether he was worried about job security. "I'm going to continue to work as hard as I can and show up early in the morning and stay late at night and continue to work," he said. "But I don't think anybody in my situation would tell you they are worried about -- if they are worried about getting fired, they probably should already have been fired." Eagles owner Jeff Lurie will meet with Kelly after next Sunday's season finale against the New York Giants, ESPN's Sal Paolantonio reported Sunday. A senior Eagles official told Paolantonio that the Eagles' recent skid "has been painful to watch." Kelly won the NFC East title in 2013, his first season after leaving Oregon for Philadelphia. The Eagles finished 10-6 and missed the playoffs last year. - - - Sam Bradford, who was going into the final year of his contract when the Eagles acquired him in a March trade with the St. Louis Rams, said he would like to return as the quarterback. Bradford, 28, has been noncommittal all season when asked about his future. "I'd like to be back here," Bradford said after Saturday's loss. "But that's not my choice. If it does present itself and I have the opportunity, this is where I want to be. I've enjoyed my time here. I've enjoyed being in Philadelphia." - - - New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees started against the Jacksonville Jaguars despite missing most of the week of preparation due to a partially torn plantar fascia in his right foot. - - - New England Patriots left tackle Sebastian Vollmer was carted off the field with a leg injury with 10:31 remaining in the first quarter and did not return against the New York Jets. Vollmer was injured while blocking for running back Joey Iosefa, who was stopped for no gain on a third-and-1 from the Patriots' 30-yard-line. - - - Buffalo Bills wide receiver Marcus Easley was carted off the field with a left knee injury during the second quarter against the Dallas Cowboys and did not return. Easley was injured while running down field to cover a punt. He left the field with his leg immobilized and a towel over his head. Bills defensive tackle Marcell Dareus was ruled out because of a shoulder injury. Dareus was hurt while trying to tackle Cowboys running back Robert Turbin early in the second quarter. - - - Indianapolis Colts quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, bothered by ribs and back injuries entering Sunday's game against the Miami Dolphins, was removed from action with 5:33 left in the second quarter. Hasselbeck, 40, suffered a shoulder injury and did not return. He was replaced by third-string quarterback Charlie Whitehurst. The Colts were already without injured starter Andrew Luck, who missed his sixth straight game. (Editing by Andrew Both)
