NFL-National Football League roundup

Sept 15 (The Sports Xchange) - Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Josh Freeman will likely seek a trade, according to CBS Sports. Freeman's relationship with coach Greg Schiano is reportedly irreparable, and the trade deadline is Oct. 29. Schiano revealed last week why Freeman missed a team photo, further alienating the 25-year-old quarterback. Freeman admitted that he overslept. Multiple executives from other NFL teams told CBS Sports they believe Schiano never endorsed Freeman as quarterback. Freeman was drafted in the first round a year before Schiano arrived at Tampa Bay from Rutgers. Tampa Bay also drafted quarterback Mike Glennon in the third round of this year's draft and is seen as "Schiano's guy" within the Buccaneers' organization. Freeman has shown flashes of ability but has been inconsistent. The Minnesota Vikings, Tennessee Titans and Oakland Raiders could be among the teams interested in upgrading their quarterback position. Freeman set most of Tampa Bay's single-season quarterback marks a year ago. He threw for 4,065 yards with 27 touchdowns and 17 interceptions. Through his first four years in the league, he has more passing yards, touchdowns and fewer interceptions than Joe Montana and John Elway and fewer interceptions than Peyton Manning. His four-year totals are 12,965 yards with 78 touchdowns and 63 interceptions. He added 210 yards with one touchdown and an interception last week. - - - Green Bay Packers rookie running back Eddie Lacy and Washington Redskins safety Brandon Meriweather were knocked out of Sunday's game with concussions. Lacy was injured at the end of his first carry of the game, a 10-yard run on the Packers' opening series. He was hit helmet-to-helmet by Meriweather, who was not penalized on the play. Meriweather later left the game in the second quarter with a helmet-to-helmet hit on Lacy's replacement, James Starks. - - - Suspended Denver Broncos linebacker Von Miller had his parents move in with him to help with his recent run of problems, according to CBS Sports. Miller, 24, is currently serving a six-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance-abuse policy and has had recent legal troubles. Miller's parents moved in with him shortly after his suspension. The Broncos also have a team employee checking in with him daily and working with his representatives. - - - New England Patriots wide receiver Danny Amendola has torn adductor muscles in his hip and might need surgery, according to Fox Sports. Earlier reports indicated that Amendola would miss two to six weeks with a sports hernia injury. The latest report, that the injury is in the muscle that connects the pelvis and the thigh bone, is slightly different but the timetable for recovery is the same. However, Amendola could return in less than a month if he does not need surgery. - - - Baltimore Ravens running back Ray Rice left Sunday's game with the Cleveland Browns after an apparent injury to his left hip. Rice was injured at the 11:57 mark of the fourth quarter after falling to ground without being touched. He was taken to the locker room by medical personnel. - - - Atlanta Falcons running back Steven Jackson left Sunday's game against the St. Louis Rams with a thigh injury. Jackson scored a touchdown on an eight-yard reception in the first quarter against his former team. - - - San Diego Chargers wide receiver Malcom Floyd was taken off the field on a stretcher in the third quarter. Floyd suffered an apparent head and neck injury in a collision with Philadelphia Eagles linebacker DeMeco Ryans. Floyd's arms were temporarily limp and he dropped the football on what was ruled an incomplete pass. After the game, the Chargers said Floyd would "be fine" and that he will be allowed to return to San Diego on the team charter. - - - The NFL sent a memo to teams warning them to stop sniping about opposing teams' players, Fox Sports reported Sunday. Last week, Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones accused the New York Giants of faking injuries and San Francisco 49ers coach Jim Harbaugh criticized Green Bay Packers linebacker Clay Matthews for his out-of-bounds hit on quarterback Colin Kaepernick. The memo stated the NFL would discipline teams for "conduct detrimental to the league" if such talk continues, according to the report. (Editing by Gene Cherry)
