Mets' Davis set to return
In three weeks as the Mets' first baseman, Josh Satin has been outstanding.
The 28-year-old is batting .353 with a .468 on-base percentage, a .549 slugging percentage, a homer and seven RBIs over 18 games. After a 1-for-6 game Thursday in the Mets' 5-4, 15-inning win over the Diamondbacks, Satin is riding a 10-game hitting streak.
However, that doesn't mean the organization has forgotten the man Satin replaced at first base.
Ike Davis, who was optioned to the minors June 10, will be recalled before Friday's series opener in Milwaukee, according to multiple media reports.
Davis, 26, hit .293 with seven home runs in 92 plate appearances with Triple-A Las Vegas. He homered in each of his last two games. Apparently he worked out some of the flaws in his swing with the help of Las Vegas manager Wally Backman and hitting coach George Greer.
Before his demotion, Davis was hitting .161 with five homers and 16 RBIs in 55 games. He had a .242 on-base percentage and a .258 slugging percentage, and he struck out 66 times in 186 at-bats.
It remains to be seen how the team will balance the playing time between Davis and Satin.
"I can honestly tell you when I came here as a field coordinator, there weren't many people who thought Josh Satin was going to do much at the major league level," manager Terry Collins said recently. "And all he did was continue to play and continue to hit at every level they put him."
