The Tampa Bay Lightning announced Saturday that they agreed to a four-year contract extension with forward Nate Thompson.

In 30 games this season, Thompson has six goals and four assists with six penalty minutes. The 28-year-old is second on the team with 58 hits.

"We're very pleased to have agreed to a contract extension with Nate," vice president and general manager Steve Yzerman said in a statement. "He has and will continue to be a very important member of our team both on and off the ice."

In a statement, Thompson said, "I'd like to thank Steve Yzerman and the organization for having the confidence in me to make me a part of this team for the next four years. I see a bright future here for the Lightning and I very much want to be a part of it."

Thompson has 29 goals and 35 assists with 161 penalty minutes in 295 career games with the Lightning, New York Islanders and Boston Bruins.
