Kubiak: Schaub still No. 1 on depth chart

Matt Schaub received a vote of confidence Monday from Houston Texans coach Gary Kubiak, but he did not receive assurance he will start the team's next game.

With Schaub out due to an ankle injury, Case Keenum started at quarterback Sunday and performed well in Houston's 17-16 road loss to the Kansas City Chiefs. Keenum completed 15 of 25 passes for 271 yards and a touchdown. He did not throw an interception, though he did lose a game-clinching fumble.

"I've got to sit down and look at our situation and what's going on right now," Kubiak said. "Obviously, Matt's our starting quarterback. Case (Keenum) played this week because Matt wasn't healthy. Case went in and played extremely well.

"I'm going to sit down -- we're on a bye week -- (and) I'm going to evaluate where we're at as a team and move forward from there. So I'm going to do that everywhere, not just at the quarterback position. I'll do that at every place."

The Texans return from their bye to play host to the Indianapolis Colts on Nov. 3.

Schaub was drawing heat in Houston before he was injured -- and some fans at Reliant Stadium cheered when he went down Oct. 13. Through six games, he has completed 64.4 percent of his passes for 1,552 yards with eight touchdown passes and nine interceptions. Schaub ranks 24th in the league with a 78.8 passer rating.
