Jets acquire RB Green off waivers

Looking to boost fill a hole in the backfield, the New York Jets claimed running back Alex Green off waivers from the Green Bay Packers on Sunday.

Green could wind up replacing Jets running back Mike Goodson, who was suspended for four games last week due to a violation of the NFL's policy against "substances of abuse." Goodson, who was signed to a three-year, $6.9 million contract in March, was arrested and charged with possession of marijuana and possession of handgun in May.

In 12 games (four starts) for Green Bay last year, Green gained 464 yards on 135 carries. In 2011, as a rookie third-round pick out of Hawaii, he produced just 11 yards on three carries.

The Jets cleared a roster spot for Green by cutting running back Khalil Bell, who lead the team with 114 rushing yards in the preseason.

The Jets made two other waiver acquisitions: linebacker Scott Solomon, from the Tennessee Titans, and offensive lineman Ben Ijalana, from the Indianapolis Colts.
