Jaguars: Three keys to beating the Lions

Let’s be real here: the Jacksonville Jaguars don’t really have much of a chance of beating the Detroit Lions. However, the kind people at Cover32 pay me to write about the Jags, so here it goes. If the Jaguars by chance beat the Lions, these will be important keys for doing so.

Play tight in coverage

Quarterback Matthew Stafford has had one of the best seasons of his career. That’s good news for my fantasy team, but bad news for the Jaguars. In the Lions’ first season without Calvin Johnson since 2006, Stafford has done a good job of spreading the ball around. Five players on the Lions have caught at least 30 passes this year. That means that any player can have a big game on any given day.

The Jaguars will have to play tight coverage throughout the game. If they don’t, then one of the Lions’ receivers could explode for a big game.

Limit the stupid mistakes

HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Take advantage of an unimpressive Lions defense

The Lions aren’t impressive anywhere on defense. Their pass rush is lacking, the run defense isn’t great and the coverage isn’t amazing either. Ezekiel Ansah has been very disappointing this year, and nobody has really stood out as great on their team. Considering that the Jaguars have had trouble on offense in every quarter but the fourth, they could use a matchup against an average defense. Besides, they just came off of a solid outing against the Texans, who are a top-five defense. If the Jaguars offense can score enough points in the first three quarters, this one might not be as awful as we think.
