Indians not impressed with fan's $5 World Series bet

Despite a 5-1 loss in Game 4 of the American League Championship Series, the Cleveland Indians still hold a commanding 3-1 series lead over the Toronto Blue Jays. All they need is one more win and they’ll reach their first World Series since 1997. From there, they’ll attempt to secure the franchise’s first world championship since 1948.

That’s a pretty exciting proposition for all Indians fans. Especially so for those confident enough to place a World Series bet on the team before the season. That’s exactly what a fan using the moniker “Matty Cleveland” did back in January, and he wanted to let the entire Twitterverse know of his confidence with the team on the verge of history.

He believed, ladies and gentleman! He believed so much that he reached in his wallet and pulled out …. one $5 bill.

At the time, the Indians had 18-to-1 odds to win it all. A win would result in a $95 pay out should the Indians win the World Series. That’s $90 more than he had before placing the bet, but when the Indians spotted Matty’s tweet … well, we’ll just say they weren’t all that impressed.

A $50 bet would definitely be worth bragging about. A $5 bet, not so much.

As it is, Matty Cleveland is still positioned to be a winner. All he needs is five more. If Tuesday is any indication though, getting those wins might be an excruciating process, especially if the Indians injury situation doesn’t improve.

Here’s a potentially cool twist though. If he does cash in, it sounds like an Indians charity will be the beneficiary in the end.

Here’s hoping if the Indians pull through, that Matty Cleveland will follow though.
