Hurricanes obtain D Bergeron for power-play help

The Carolina Hurricanes acquired veteran defenseman Marc-Andre Bergeron from the Tampa Bay Lightning for forward Adam Hall and a seventh-round pick on Tuesday.

Bergeron, 32, is joining his eighth team in 10 years in the NHL. He has one goal and four assists in just 12 games this season.

The Lightning are looking in particular for a boost from Bergeron on the power play, which ranks 30th of 30 NHL teams in efficiency at 12.7 percent.

"Marc-Andre is a skilled, veteran defenseman who has made a good career out of helping teams on the power play," Hurricanes general manager Jim Rutherford said.

Hall, 32, was picked up on waivers from Tampa Bay on March 16.
