Horse Racing: Friday's market movers
Rose Dobbin has already struck with Purcell’s Bridge and Doktor Glaz this week and market moves suggest the in-form South Hazelrigg trainer could have more joy this afternoon with SLANELOUGH (2.45). The improving 5yo has been shaping like he would improve for the step up in trip, which he gets at Musselburgh today, and is now as short as 5-2 having been a 5-1 chance on the opening show.
ULYSSES (16:35) shaped with significant promise on his debut at Lingfield earlier this month and punters clearly expect the son of derby winner Sinndar to go one better with that experience under his belt. The German-bred gelding is related to plenty of middle distance winners and is now odds-on across the board (opened 5-4) to follow suit under Fran Berry in the 16:35 at Lingfield.
A four-month break means TAGUR (7.45) comes back a refreshed horse and a morning move (8-1 into as short as 4-1) suggests the Kevin Ryan-trained 3yo is ready to step up on the level of form he was showing at the backend of last year. He didn’t have the speed to cope with the tight turns of Lingfield last time but the return to this more galloping circuit, at which he has already run well in defeat, should prove ideal.
Wiley Yorkshire trainer David Barron knows his swans from his geese so money for his newcomer MELONADE (8.15) at Newcastle this evening needs to be taken seriously. The stable are also represented by Darvie but the morning move of 5-1 to as short as 5-2 indicates this daughter of Mayson is the stable’s main hope.
