Giants pitcher Mota suspended 100 games for PEDs
Giants pitcher Guillermo Mota has been suspended 100 games by Major League baseball for his second violation of the league's drug policy.
Mota, who turns 39 in July, was suspended Monday after testing positive for Clenbuterol a performance-enhancing drug. He had previously been suspended for 50 games to start the 2007 season, when he was a member of the New York Mets. He had gone 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA in 18 appearances in 2006 after coming over from the Indians, but was 2-2 with a 5.76 ERA in 52 appearances after returning from his suspension.
"The Giants are disappointed to learn of Guillermo Mota's suspension. We support Major League Baseball's Drug Prevention and Treatment Program," the Giants said in a statement.
Mota will be eligible to return in late August. In nine appearances so far in 2012, he is 0-1 with a 5.06 ERA and nine strikeouts in nine appearances. He was 2-2 with a 3.81 ERA in 52 games last season.
The Giants (14-14, second in NL West) visit the Dodgers (18-10, first in NL West) on Monday night. Game time at Dodger Stadium is 10:10 p.m. ET.
