Gardner might have X-ray on hand

New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner may have an X-ray on his right hand after it was hit by a pitch during Friday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

Gardner was hit in the third inning of the 7-2 loss but stayed in the game. The hand was red but not very swollen afterward. He said he may have an X-ray as a precautionary measure.

"It's not that bad," he said. "So I'm not too worried about it."

It is possible he may sit out Saturday's game.

Yankees infielder Jayson Nix is out for the season after recently being hit on the hand with a pitch.

Gardner is batting .269 with a .337 on-base percentage, eight home runs, 43 RBI and 22 stolen bases over 126 games this season.
