Former Mountaineers QB Smith visiting Chiefs
Former West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith was scheduled to visit the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday, according to USA Today.
Smith is projected to be the first quarterback taken in this month's NFL draft. He is ranked as the No. 1 quarterback and eighth-best draft prospect overall by NFLDraftScout.com.
The visit to Kansas City is Smith's first stop on his "World Tour," which he labeled in an interview with USA Today last week. He said he will work out with several teams throughout this week.
The Chiefs have the No. 1 overall pick in the draft and new coach Andy Reid said the team has not ruled out drafting Smith first.
"I hope Kansas City is legitimately interested," Smith said on Friday. "I hope I go number one, but, hey, we'll see. The Chiefs are bringing me in, so I'm going in there thinking that they're interested (in me), because I am in them."
Smith threw for 4,205 yards with a nation-high 42 touchdowns for West Virginia last year. He also completed 60 of 64 passes during the Mountaineers' Pro Day in March.
Smith met with the Buffalo Bills and Philadelphia Eagles last week and is scheduled to visit the Bills again this week. In addition, he spoke with representatives from other teams after his Pro Day workout.
"All of the teams have been really impressed with me, they've all said good things," Smith said. "I'm not going to put my hope or my eggs in one team's basket. All of them have shown a high level of interest. It's not a case where I know of one team being more interested. We'll just have to see on draft night."
