Florida State Unveils New Uniforms

Florida State University athletic teams will don new threads next season, thanks to a big upgrade from Nike. In addition to providing a modern twist on classic design elements (like the Seminole head and the Seminole spear), the uniforms will also bring a technical update that is “superior in every respect to the uniforms the FSU teams currently wear,” said Nike. The upgrade includes new uniforms for all athletes at the university.
Garnet and gold will remain the Seminoles' primary colors, with white and black serving as a secondary option.
The uniform upgrade was two years in the making. FSU originally approached Nike with a “desire to return to a truer garnet that would be as consistent as possible across all sports and all materials,” according to a press release. FSU also hoped to create a more distinctive Seminole head logo, since the old logo did “not reproduce well in a number of mediums.” Here’s a side-by-side comparison of the old and new Seminole heads. The new Seminole head logo has been approved by the head of the Seminole Tribe of Florida, and it certainly looks crisper and clearer.
The upgrade comes at the tail end of a banner year for the Seminoles, during which they captured their first FBS championship since 1999. It also coincides with the release of a uniform makeover for the University of Miami Hurricanes.
