Florida RB Jones out for season
Florida running back Matt Jones is out for the rest of the season with a torn meniscus in his left knee.
Gators coach Will Muschamp announced Monday that Jones had surgery to repair the knee.
Jones sustained the injury during Saturday's 17-6 loss at LSU.
"Very unfortunate," Muschamp said. "I hate it for Matt. He's a great young man. To go through what he's been through ... and then to have this setback is just disheartening for all of us."
Jones, a sophomore, had 79 carries for 339 yards with two touchdowns this season. He missed most preseason practice and the season opener recovering from a viral infection.
Muschamp made Jones regain the starting job after fumbling in each of his first two games. He responded with a 176-yard performance at Kentucky.
With Jones out, the Gators turn to fourth-year junior Mack Brown, who leads the team with 340 rushing yards and three touchdowns, and freshman Kelvin Taylor.
"We'll get the next guy up," Muschamp said. "We've recruited well at the position, so those guys will get their opportunities and they need to be ready in all situations."
Taylor, the son of former NFL running back Fred Taylor, has 16 carries for 98 yards this season. He had 10 rushes for 52 yards against LSU.
Florida plays at No. 14 Missouri on Saturday.
