Florida to hire Duke's Roper as OC

Duke offensive coordinator Kurt Roper will take the same position at Florida, multiple media outlets reported Tuesday.

Roper will remain on the Blue Devils' staff for the Chick-fil-A Bowl against Texas A&M on Dec. 31.

Bruce Feldman of CBSSports.com reported that Roper interviewed with Gators coach Will Muschamp on Monday.

ESPN, as well as the News and Observer, also reported that the hire will be made official later this week.

Roper replaces Brent Pease, who was fired after the Gators' 4-8 year, the worst regular-season finish since 1979.

The Gators' injury-riddled offense ranked last in the SEC in total offense and scoring, ranking No. 110 nationally with a 4.79 yards per play average. The Gators had embarrassing losses to Vanderbilt and Georgia Southern this season.

Roper is a longtime protege of Duke coach David Cutliffe and has gained a reputation for grooming quarterbacks.
