Eagles rookie QB Foles goes in injured reserve

The Philadelphia Eagles placed quarterback Nick Foles on injured reserve Wednesday and signed defensive tackle Antonio Dixon to a two-year contract.

The Eagles also signed linebacker Marcus Dowtin to the practice squad.

Foles broke his throwing hand in the second quarter of last Sunday's 27-20 loss to Washington. The rookie had started six games after Michael Vick was sidelined because of a concussion and the Eagles went 1-5. He concluded his first NFL season with an Eagles rookie record with 1,699 passing yards.

Vick will start for the Eagles (4-11) on Sunday in their season finale against the New York Giants. It will be his first action since he was injured in an Nov. 11 game against Dallas.

Dixon returns to the Eagles after playing in two games for Indianapolis before he was released Oct. 29. He started played in 35 games, including 10 starts and totaled 62 tackles for the Eagles from 2009 to 2011.

Dowtin was waived by the New York Jets on Nov. 20. He played in three games for the Jets and had four tackles on special teams.
