Ditka hospitalized after minor stroke
Hall of Fame tight end and former coach Mike Ditka had a minor stroke and was hospitalized on Friday.
Ditka, currently an analyst for ESPN, was at a country club outside Chicago playing cards when he noticed something was wrong with his fingers and he had trouble speaking.
Doctors told Ditka he had a minor stroke.
"I feel good right now and it's not a big deal," he told the Chicago Tribune.
The 73-year-old will not work this weekend, an ESPN producer announced via Twitter.
Ditka has not had any major health problems since having a heart attack when he was coaching the Chicago Bears in 1988. He was 49 at the time. He went against doctors' orders and returned the team about a week later.
Ditka's Hall of Fame playing career started with the Bears. He also played for the Philadelphia Eagles and Dallas Cowboys. He coached the Bears to a Super Bowl in January of 1986. He also coached the New Orleans Saints and finished with a 121-95 record. Ditka and Tom Flores are the only ones to win Super Bowls as a player, assistant coach and head coach.
