Dennard claims he did not fail sobriety test
New England Patriots cornerback Alfonzo Dennard claims he did not fail a field sobriety test and was not asked to take a blood test after being arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence in Nebraska on Thursday, according to NFL.com.
Dennard was cited for refusing a chemical test and straddling lane lines.
The second-year player out of Nebraska was pulled over about 2 a.m. Thursday and arrested. Dennard's representatives said that he tried to blow into a Breathalyzer at least twice and the attempts were not considered sufficient enough to meet officers' qualifications.
In April, Dennard was convicted of one count of assaulting a uniformed police officer and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, two years probation and 100 hours of law enforcement-related community service. He is scheduled to serve the jail sentence in March of 2014.
He was projected as a first- or second-round draft pick but slid to the seventh round of the 2012 draft after the arrest.
