D-backs GM will take a look at Guerrero

Vladimir Guerrero, who is now a free agent, will work out for Arizona Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers in the Dominican Republic some time this week, MLB.com reported Sunday.

Guerrero, 37, hit .290 with 13 home runs for the Baltimore Orioles in 2011, but became a free agent after the season. He wants to continue to play and had said he would consider playing in Japan. He also drew some interest from the Cleveland Indians last month.

Towers is scheduled to go to the Dominican to look at some amateur players, and D-backs vice president of Latin operations Junior Noboa suggested Towers take some time while he is there to assess whether Guerrero might help the D-backs.

"Junior knows him and likes him and says he looks good," Towers told MLB.com. "Who knows what comes of it. He's out there. Junior knows him well and he's in the Dominican. He said he's in good shape. I'm going to be down there for a workout anyway."
