CSN Chicago fires reporter after 'sex' remark
Comcast SportsNet Chicago parted ways with reporter Susannah Collins two days after an on-air flub went viral on the internet and was the subject of talk show jokes.
Collins, who covered the Chicago Blackhawks for the network, accidentally said "sex" instead of "success" on the air Tuesday night during a report outside the Blackhawks dressing room. She quickly corrected herself but the mistake got lots of attention on TV and the internet.
But the Chicago Tribune reported Friday that Collins' dismissal on Thursday night related to previous appearances she made on a controversial sports show.
"Due to circumstances unrelated to her on-air remarks Tuesday night, Susannah Collins and Comcast SportsNet Chicago have parted ways," Phil Bedella, vice president and general manager of CSN Chicago said in a statement. "We appreciate everything Susannah has contributed to our network over the past year and wish her the best in her future endeavors."
The attention on Collins led to the findings of a series of YouTube videos uploaded between 2009 and 2010 that pushed the boundaries of taste and journalism. Collins co-hosted "Sports Nutz," a low-brow sports show that included sexually explicit reports and racial stereotypes that could be found offensive by some.
Collins joined CSN Chicago last year and was part its coverage of the Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs and White Sox.
