NFL on Yahoo Sports:

Cowher open to return to coaching

The SportsXchange

Former Pittsburgh Steelers coach Bill Cowher expects to return to the sideline at some point.

Newsday reported Tuesday that Cowher answered "yes" when asked whether he might coach again at some point. When that could be remains a mystery.

Cowher, 55, left the Steelers after the 2006 season but doesn't think it would be hard to acclimate himself to coaching after serving as a studio analyst for CBS. The former Super Bowl-winning coach said his current work keeps him close to the game.

"It would be a challenge," Cowher said. "But I think that's probably why I would get back into it because of the challenge."

He knows the style of play has changed some in the NFL, but not enough for him to shy away from a possible return.

"I did it for 27 years. You don't just forget things overnight," Cowher said. "One thing about this job is it's been really good because it allows me to study the game and do features on the game. I want to know what I'm talking about, so I'm watching tape. It's not like I'm out of it. I know how the game is changing."

His comments come at a time when five NFL head-coaching jobs remain open, including one with the Cleveland Browns, for whom he played linebacker and served as an assistant coach.
