Cowboys release FB Vickers

In an apparent attempt to create more salary-cap room, the Dallas Cowboys released fullback Lawrence Vickers.

The move, which the team announced on Friday, saves $1.2 million in cap space.

Vickers, 30, played one season with the Cowboys. Last season, he played in all 16 games, including six starts. He carried the ball three times for 11 yards and caught 13 passes for 104 yards.

The Cowboys are expected to rely more on two-tight-end sets this coming season, so there is less need for a fullback.

Vickers was the only fullback on the roster.

Tom Pelissero of USA Today tweeted that Vickers' release leaves only eight fullbacks in the NFL who are due more than $1 million next season.
