Charlotte quarterback Kevin Olsen has been formally charged with rape.

According to the Charlotte Observer, Olsen was arrested Sunday and is facing charges of “felony second-degree forcible rape, cyberstalking, assault on a female and second-degree forced sex.”

In a statement, the school, which said it has been in “close communication” with local police, said the incident occurred off campus and appears “to involve sexual assault within an existing relationship.” Olsen, who started for the 49ers during the 2016 season, has been suspended from the team.

“Olsen has been suspended from Charlotte Athletics, and the University is reviewing the case consistent with its disciplinary procedures,” the school said. “Due to the ongoing CMPD investigation and federal protections on student information, the University will have no further comment on the investigation at this time.”

Olsen appeared in court Monday morning, where a bond was set at $103,000. Some details from the alleged incident emerged during Monday morning’s hearing, per the Observer:

An incident report dated 7 a.m. Feb. 19 said the victim was a 23-year-old female who had minor injuries, including bruises and scratches. She was hospitalized at Carolinas Medical Center in the University City area, the report said.

Alcohol was involved in the incident, according to details released Monday during the hearing before District Court Judge Gary Henderson. The incident allegedly occurred at a private residence southeast of the UNC Charlotte campus between 3:30 a.m. and 4 a.m. Sunday, a report states.

Charlotte is the third stop of the collegiate career for Olsen, the brother of Carolina Panthers tight end Greg Olsen. Kevin Olsen, a four-star recruit in the 2013 class, signed with Miami and redshirted his first year on campus. He competed for the starting job in 2014, but was dismissed from school early in the season following a DUI arrest. The arrest followed a reported one-game suspension for failing a drug test.

From there, Olsen landed at Towson but was dismissed in April 2015 for violating team rules. He spent the 2015 season at a junior college before enrolling at Charlotte ahead of the 2016 campaign. He started six games for the 49ers in 2016 and threw for 842 yards, six touchdowns and three interceptions while completing just 49.7 percent of his passes. He was benched in October.
