The track star receiver for the Buffalo Bills may again be losing out on his shot at winning a starting job with the Buffalo Bills. Competing for the third receiver spot with some other receivers, Goodwin’s chances definitely have taken a nose dive with the news that he left the practice field early with a possible concussion.

Attempting to make a catch, Goodwin’s head bounced off the ground and the player struggled to get up afterward. Evaluating him on the sidelines, the trainers eventually took Goodwin to the locker room and he has now entered into the NFL’s new concussion protocol system.

The bad news and timing could not be worse for Goodwin. Currently listed as one of the top contenders to win the third receiver spot, Goodwin will now have to need a lot of things go his way to potentially win a starting spot. For one thing, Goodwin will have to hope his concussion goes away within the next week so that he can play in the team’s final preseason game.

This is not the first concussion rodeo for Goodwin during his career. Suffering a concussion during week four of the 2014 season, Goodwin has actually missed more games due to injury than caught passes in his career thus far. Add to this that Goodwin has been putting a lot more attention into his track career during the last year and his days could be numbered.

Coming into the preseason, Goodwin received praise from some members of the coaching staff including offensive coordinator Greg Roman. Talking up Goodwin’s speed and intangibles, Roman will be seriously upset at the loss of one of his most hyped offensive weapons.

“What a weapon he is huh? World class speed. The guy has got a different attitude about him and a different look in his eye this year and I like it. He’s showing up every single day. He was asking good questions in meetings. All the things that impress you. He’s somebody who is on a mission.”

The loss of Goodwin definitely ups the hopes of fellow backup wide receivers. With Goodwin out of the picture for this weeks preseason game, the other receivers battling will have one less player to compete with on the field. Unless Goodwin returns soon, his chances of winning a starting role may be completely over.
