Buffalo Bills potential first round draft picks

Despite ending the season much sooner than anyone would have wanted, it is now time to turn our attention to most fans second most favorite time of year. The NFL Draft. For the Buffalo Bills, this will also be the first big strikes for Sean McDermott as he begins his tenure as the head coach in Buffalo.

In need of help on both sides of the football, the Buffalo Bills first round draft pick could be anyone’s guess at the moment. Will it be a quarterback? A wide receiver? How about a cornerback or a defensive lineman? At this point, you could almost throw a dart and hit a positional group the Bills need help at.

With the Draft now just over three months away, I know it may be a little early to be looking towards the draft. But with the college football season now over, all that remains in the evaluation process is the combine and senior bowl for certain players. After that, individual workouts and before you know it, draft day. So without further ado, we present Week three of the “Buffalo Bills potential first round draft picks.”

3. Ryan Ramczyk — Offensive Tackle — Wisconsin

In need of some offensive line help especially in the depth department, the Buffalo Bills could be tempted to select offensive tackle Ryan Ramczyk. Ramczyk would also serve as an upgrade at the right tackle position for the Bills, something that will only serve to help the offense as a whole next season.

One of the best left tackles in college football last season, Ramcyzk had a different college career than most. Attending UW-Stevens Point for his first two years, Ramcyzk sat out his junior year when he transferred to the University of Wisconsin. However, that season off did nothing to damper his on field performances.

With hip surgery upcoming for Ramczyk, his draft status could drop if any complications are had or if the recovery time takes longer than expected. However, Ramczyk is currently right in the Bills wheelhouse. If they value talent over need, this could be their pick.

2. Derek Barnett — Defensive End — Tennessee

Darek Barnett’s draft stock has dropped a bit in recent weeks thanks to the rise of Solomon Thomas. That said, Barnett still remains one of this draft classes fiercest pass rushers. A constant presence playing for the University of Tennessee, Barnett possesses one of the best resumes of any player in this draft.

Going pro after his junior season, Barnett was a starter for the Volunteers since his freshman year on campus. Eventually passing Reggie White for most sacks in school history, Barnett has a major pedigree behind him following these excellent seasons in college. Barnett also possesses the ability to stop ball carriers making him an all-around defensive end.

If Barnett does well during both the combine and during individual workouts, we could see him rocket back up draft boards. However, if the draft we’re to be held today, he would likely be avaliable when the Buffalo Bills make their selection.

1. A Quarterback

I still firmly believe that the Buffalo Bills will select a Quarterback with there first round pick. However, given the fluidity of the current quarterback situation in this draft class, I really don’t know who it could be. Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes are two names that immediately come to mind.

That said, I’ve seen mocks with Watson going as low as the late second round and some as high as number one to the Browns. While I don’t believe he is of first round talent, Watson draft stock will really be determined by his individual workouts and if he throws at the combine.

The second quarterback on my radar is Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes. A gunslinger in the true sense of the word, Mahomes knows how to chuck the ball downfield at least 40-50 times a game. Having a strong run game will only help in his development. If the Bills are looking for someone that likes to throw the football, Mahomes is their guy.
