Buccaneers trying hard to land Michael Johnson
As the Chicago Bears make a bid for Seattle Seahawks defensive end Michael Bennett, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are expected to make a major push to land Cincinnati Bengals defensive end Michael Johnson.
Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith is seeking a pass rusher of Johnson's caliber to bolster his defense, according to Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune.
Last year, Johnson played under an $11.2 million franchise tag.
Now, he's expected to get huge money in free agency.
Meanwhile, the Bears are pursuing Bennett, the brother of Bears tight end Martellus Bennett.
Bennett recorded 8 1/2 sacks last season and nine sacks the previous year with the Buccaneers.
